Precast Floor ‘U-Slab’

An opportunity arose to demonstrate a bespoke integration of structure and MEP services during the development of this project. After a number of test  assemblies the project team settled on a method where the MEP module was married to the underside of a precast floor slab.

Entitled the ‘U-Slab’ due to it’s shape, this method of construction has delivered numerous benefits, namely reduced crane lifts, working at height, health and safety risks and visits to the workface.

The area of installation is above a main thoroughfare and fire escape where access is restricted. The integration of both units occurs off site where the precast slab is lowered on the MEP module and fixed with strategically placed supports along the length of the frame.
