Presentations from medical professionals on mental health issues

It is important to provide an environment which openly discusses issues surrounding mental health, to dispel any associated stigmas.

Sites should work to support all members of staff and raise awareness of mental health issues.

Below is an example of how a site has utilised the hospital environment they were working in, to better inform the workforce of the issues surrounding mental health and wellbeing:

  • A scheme was introduced where professionals from the mental health department, accompanied by volunteer patients, visited the site to deliver presentations on recognising mental health issues and the support that was available for anyone needing assistance;
  • Operative’s attitudes and behaviour was further reinforced by a volunteer patient who highlighted the importance of not leaving tools and equipment unattended in areas where mental health patients could gain access.
