Primary school safety competition

Construction sites can pose a danger to children, especially during the summer months when they can be perceived as somewhere to find adventure, so when Site manager Kerry Dyson was given the Ecton Brook site to run he immediately decided that as Considerate Constructors, the site should engage the local school which is adjacent to the site.

The Ecton Brook primary school were approached with a three stage approach to engage the pupils:

Firstly the site staff were given safety information regarding the proximity of the school.

Secondly, Steve Dudman, Westleigh’s safety director and Kerry Dyson the site manager and other site staff gave an assembly at the school.

Thirdly, the pupils had a competition to design a range of safety posters, learning potential dangers in the process, these posters were then made into informative site safety signs and used around the site perimeter, the pupils then had a site visit to see their work and help them understand the dangers on site.
