It is essential that all safety incidents are recorded on site, including accidents and near misses, to ensure they are properly addressed and measures are taken to prevent their re-occurrence. Sites are increasingly seeking to make this process quicker and easier for everyone involved by simplifying the process to encourage greater vigilance against safety incidents.

See the examples below for the solution devised by one site:

  • The project developed a mobile app to display all the relevant information, including contact details and pictures of key site personnel and policy documents including drugs and alcohol, health and safety, and environmental.
  • The app also includes forms for on time reporting of safety and environmental accidents, incidents and near misses.
  • Start of shift inspections must be carried out prior to commencing works; the app allows operatives to upload these reports with accompanying photo evidence.
  • Operatives are also able to use the app to book an appointment with the occupational health nurse.

While the primary purpose of the app was to make reporting accidents easier, it provided a well-rounded and useful resource for everyone on site by collating key information into a simple format.
