Providing bicycles for travel to site

Considerate constructors should encourage their workforce to lead healthy lives and also protect the environment as much as possible. Cycling provides a way for workers to keep fit and also minimise the project’s impact on the environment.

See the examples below for how one site implemented this:

  • The site provided four new bicycles and obtained four recycled bicycles through a local bike recycling enterprise. The bikes were decorated with company livery.
  • The bikes were provided for the workforce to get to and from the offsite car park, providing a quick and healthy way to get to site.
  • To ensure worker safety, the bikes are only available after the operative has taken a cycling proficiency test and agrees to wear a helmet.
