Ramadan Education Video for the Workforce

During Ramadan one of this contractor’s female Trainee Site Managers requested to talk to the workforce about the symbolism of the holy month and the importance of supporting people observing Ramadan.

The talk was so successful with the workforce that they asked her to record an informative film which could be rolled out to our full supply chain and the Wates wider group. The film covered topics such as ‘What does Ramadan Involve?’, ‘What does Ramadan Mean to Me?’ and ‘What can you do to help?’. This film is part of a series of talks to raise awareness of underrepresented groups and help create new allies and networks.

Whilst other employers have previously provided information on Ramadan this is the first instance where a film has been produced to reach a wider audience and the use of technology to get the message across has had a far superior impact than posters/leaflets.

Tips and advice from the film include: Regular breaks, Clean spaces for prayer, Separate rest areas. Intense activities limited to AM, Flexible working hours, Employer risk assessments and being mindful.

This year the contractor has also purchased 30 additional silk prayer mats which will be donated to the local mosque on completion of the project.
