Re-usable Fabric Door Handle Covers

At South Quay Plaza we are committed to minimise our use of disposable plastics, following the CCS ‘Spotlight on… plastics and packaging’ learning toolkit.

As part of this we have developed a plastics and packaging minimising strategy. Our latest initiative challenged us to review the different types of disposable plastic protection we use on site and find an alternative.

A major success of this has been the introduction and implementation of re-usable fabric door handle covers to replace traditional clear plastic wrap. As this is a development of 634 units in SQP1 and 1,284 in total in all 3 phases, the reduction in plastic use would be substantial.

We believe this is a simple and affordable solution to a industry-wide problem, which could be easily replicated across the construction sector to reduce the negative impact waste plastics are having on the environment.
