This contractor’s partnership with Saint-Gobain in the Glass Forever programme is a new approach to sustainable glass recovery. This initiative involves recycling glass directly from their construction sites to create new glass products.

The process consists of several key steps to maximise the recovery of glass, including breaking and separating the glass, preventing contamination and storing it in specialised cullet bags for collection. This initiative is commendable as it substitutes reclaimed glass, or cullet, in place of raw materials, mitigating CO2 and sulphur dioxide emissions associated with the conventional manufacturing of virgin glass.

Additionally, this process promotes circular economy principles by creating a closed-loop system for glass recovery and reuse. In practise, if 30 tonnes of glass are recovered through this partnership, it could lead to a noteworthy reduction of 12 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
