Remote process administration during the coronavirus pandemic

To combat the risk of transmission of coronavirus on site, amongst various control measures implemented in line with CLC SOP; we have developed and administered remote technology for the use of site inductions, permits, signing in and out, briefings and questionnaires.

Utilising QR codes situated both on and off site, with simple links sent out via email and text for off site measures such as inductions.

This process ensures our Site Management retains our high standards of compliance through automatic scoring and data computation. Therefore, Site Management receive full and complete information for their approval and completion. There are measures in place to help individuals that experience difficulties with the process, such as live chat and SMS communication direct to the site team. The process is developed on an individual site basis, by including site specific details such as areas of excavation, plant number and type, operators qualification and cable avoidance tools for break ground permits. Once this data is administered by the Site Team it reinforces the automatic compliance the system offers.

From a compliance perspective, the data output is autonomously sorted and filed for compliant evidencing and is readily available in the form of dashboards, graphical representation or individual responses.

Furthermore, we have distributed QR codes in the local community for members of the public to complete a short questionnaire on our performance in the locality.

This has allowed our sites to become fully efficient in ensuring social distancing is upheld at all times.

This example of best practice is just one way that projects can work to tackle the virus and reduce the spread. For full guidance and the latest Government advice read the Construction Leadership Council’s Site Operating Procedures.
