UKCG Respect Campaign

The industry has seen the launch of  various ‘respect’ campaigns, aimed at encouraging the recruitment of diverse minority groups within the industry.

The respect campaigns align with the wider industry efforts to promote diversity through the cross-industry group on Fairness, Inclusion and Respect.

Examples of how Build UK, formerly known as UKCG, have promoted inclusive behaviours on site include:

  • In 2013, Build UK launched their Respect Campaign;
  • Build UK has taken the lead in introducing communication tools on-site, e.g. posters, slides for induction and toolbox talks;
  • Build UK members outperform the wider construction industry on the employment of people from diverse backgrounds.

Data from Build UK members shows:

• 19% of employees in Build UK firms are women, compared to construction industry average of 13%;
• 6% of staff in Build UK firms are BME, compared to industry average of 5%.

Build UK have created a number of helpful documents such as toolbox talks and posters which you can download below.
