Reusing Water for Road Sweepers

Construction companies should ensure they are doing all they can to protect the environment. This includes minimising water usage and dust pollution.

See the examples below for how one company addressed this:

  • The company undertakes road repairs and operatives road sweepers for damping down dust.
  • The company collects rainwater from large roof areas at the depot.
  • This water is used to fill their road sweepers for damping purposes.
  • The sweepers were retro-fitted with suction pipes that lead to filters before returning to the water tank. If the rainwater supply runs out they will revert to mains water.

This system minimises water use, therefore ensuring the company is not wasteful in its use of natural resources.
