Safety Boot Check

An appropriate standard of PPE should be worn by all workers and visitors on site.

PPE can help protect workers and visitors, as hi-viz jackets ensure that operatives are easily visible and hard hats and boots protect sensitive parts of the body, as do gloves and goggles.

The safety of the feet is particularly important on a construction site, where sharp debris could be lying on the ground or materials could fall from above and cause injury.

Below is an example of how this site has taken foot protection seriously:

  • All site operatives were visited by the Health and Safety Assistant on site who took a close up photo of their boots;
  • These photos were then printed and laminated individually, but kept anonymous as to who owned the boots;
  • The operatives were then brought together and graded the boots in the following categories – Good, OK, Bad and Burn;
  • This idea meant that operatives who saw their boots in the Bad/ Burn categories would feel the need to improve and would make sure their boots were in good condition.
