The project team at Manchester Metropolitan University Arts and Humanities site worked with a subcontractor to come up with a solution for dealing with concrete wash water.

The site is limited on space and it was not possible to obtain a consent to discharge trade effluent. The proposed solution involved a system which allows the reuse of the initial wash water once it is neutralised and the treated water can then be used over and over again.

The Blue Rinse unit used on the project is smaller than a skip in terms of footprint and has proven to dramatically reduce on-site mains water consumption. Environmental and safety risks associated with storage and handling of high pH wash water are also eliminated.
