School pallet challenge

At the end of last year, Gentoo Construction wanted to engage with a local school near a site in Gateshead.

They challenged students to come up with an idea of what they could design and make with a number of unused pallets left on site.

They set the challenge to Lingey Lane Primary School and the children came up with a number of ideas of how they thought the pallets could be used within the school.

The final design was a train with a carriage attached to the back where the children could sit and add planter boxes to use throughout the year.

The pupils that designed the winning train then got the chance to help build it and watch it take shape over a day.

They got to sand, saw and drill different parts together, whilst staff engaged with the pupils about the importance of recycling and how they can help recycle in their home and community.
