In line with Multiplex’s policy to protect the environment and the UK’s target to eliminate all avoidable plastic waste by the end of 2042, Multiplex’s 48 Carey Street team has taken action to ban single-use plastic from the canteen and offices.

The project reached that milestone on the 5th June, celebrating World Environment Day 2018 in accordance with this year’s theme, ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’.

The project team has developed and launched the following initiatives and managed to become the first single-use plastic free Multiplex project:

  • Use of biodegradable water cups, coffee cups, lids and take away boxes at the canteen
  • Banned plastic cutlery from the canteen to replace with timber and metal ones
  • Spot-checks on welfare personal care products supplied by Multiplex for microbeads
  • Plastic free packaging for the fresh fruits provided
  • Banned plastic covers from binding documents
  • Plastic Bags stash at the office for reuse
  • Replaced single use plastic water bottles with cardboard boxed water
  • Replaced single use plastic milk containers with glass ones
