‘Skyrak’ system on MEWPs

The safe transportation of materials is essential to securing the safety of all workers on site. This is particuarly important when working at height with Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs).

See the examples below for how one site addressed this:

  • The ‘Skyrak’ system was introduced as a mandatory requirement on all MEWPs.
  • Traditionally, materials like pipework and lengths of materials were transported on the MEWP by putting them on the hand rail. This made them vulnerable to being dislodged and made the transportation a high risk activity requiring the full attention of operatives.
  • The Skyrak system allows the safe storage of pipework etc. on an MEWP until it is lifted into its final position in the works.
