SMA Made From Recycled Tyres

The site team piloted ‘Rubber SMA’ on a length of road to enable it to be tested prior to general release. This new surfacing material is more flexible and reduces road noise due to its density and can be laid warm.

The client had identified a challenge regarding the disposal of old tyres. However, the new surfacing material has helped resolve this as it is made from recycled tyres. Therefore it has effectively turned waste into a usable product.
