Smoke detector protection made simple

We are currently carrying out a student accommodation refurbishment covering over 130 rooms all of which have a smoke/ heat detector.

As they were all situated above commercial premises/ shops etc. we were not able to simply isolate the fire alarm system.

To enable the various trades to proceed we purchased a number of proprietary polythene dust covers, which we individually numbered.

We issued these on a daily basis with a signing in and out sheet to ensure that they were returned each evening.

This has proved to be successful in so much as we have not had any fire alarm activations where they have been deployed.
