A new method of piling was used on this project to enable the piling with extraction to be carried out in very close vicinity to homes and businesses.
This method stops any over drilling needed, any escaping air which could cause localised damage, dust and flying debris. Previous methods used were causing too much noise and vibrations causing damage to the surrounds.
They used an extraction system alongside this piling technique, traditional DTHH piling methods use compressed air to blow pile arisings out of the ground, which in a town centre environment is not acceptable and the bespoke extraction system was developed to ensure that any debris was contained so not to damage any properties or pollute the river Kent.
The new method for the UK piling industry, has been brought over from Scandinavia where the ground is difficult to pile, then a new technique of piling along with the the extraction system was applied making this a great solution to a very difficult area of piling due to the surrounding community.
A bigger rig was unable to gain access to the piling site due to the location along the river Kent and having to cross a temporary bridge. Some residents living only a few feet away from the piling site, the technique meant that the residents could remain in their homes during the works and not have to be relocated.
