BGCL/NP had planned works at Entwistle Station from Friday Night 18th November through to Monday Morning 21st November during a disruptive 54 hour blockade. These works consisted of:
- Scaffold platform extension
- New DNO buried route
- Excavation behind existing walls
- 54m3 concrete pour
The works were taking place adjacent to West Pennine Remembrance Park, which shared access with the site.
The West Pennine Remembrance Park is a private woodland burial site located in Entwistle, Lancashire. The site, situated in a mature woodland area renowned for its natural beauty and moorland views, provides a real choice of final resting ground in a peaceful, private and scenic environment
On Wednesday 16th November, we were advised that the West Pennine Remembrance Park had booked a burial in for 12pm on the Saturday, during the busiest period of the works. We contacted the Funeral Director and arranged to be informed when the funeral party had left the church.
As a result, the full site stood down so that no unnecessary noise was created during the burial Service. The stand down made it into the hour by hour programme and BGCL/NP has left a lasting impression that despite a really busy blockade Lineside Neighbours are shown the respect they deserve during special events.
A very complimentary letter was written by the Funeral Director to BGCL/NP: “I wanted to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to you and your staff for what they did on the Saturday whilst you were working at Entwistle. The world we live in seems to be in a rush all of the time, but to know as the Funeral Director, that your team were to stand down to allow a funeral and burial to take place is nothing short of commendable. Please ensure my comments and gratitude are passed up your ranks to your management team. They should be truly proud of you all. Please pass on my sincere thanks to your team for their time, care and compassion.”
