STEM Insight Teacher Placements

The STEM Insight programme provides a unique and stimulating experience for teachers, lecturers, managers and technicians to update their knowledge and awareness of modern STEM related careers.

Morgan Sindall Aviation hosted a lecturer from Heathrow Aviation Engineering University Technical College, on a five day placement providing him with an exceptional opportunity to experience construction within a live operational environment at Heathrow Airport.

Recent studies have shown that teachers are one of the most important influences in a student’s career choice. STEM Insight and Morgan Sindall believe that by providing teachers with an authentic experience of the industry, they will be more informed and better placed to provide the right advice to their students.

During his placement, the lecturer visited Morgan Sindall Aviation projects including Airside Taxiways and the Eastern Balancing Reservoir project. While on site he was given the opportunity of shadowing project managers, engineers, and supervisors as well as learning about the wide range of roles and opportunities within construction and infrastructure. During the week, the lecturer was also involved in a number of planning and resource meetings for future projects at Heathrow Airport.

Dr. Shailesh Parmar said:

“Morgan Sindall Aviation provided me all sorts of resources and ideas which I can use straight away for my teaching. I learnt a lot from this placement! Once again, a big thanks from the Heathrow Aviation UTC team. I look forward to visiting you again and for your support in the future for my students with your company.”
