Stopping Works for 5 minutes for a Daily Health and Safety Check

At the Pontoon Dock site, we constantly try to improve the safety of our workforce. After years of experience, historical data shows that most accidents/ incidents occur around 11am.

At Bouygues UK, every morning at five to 11, we ask the operatives and all people on site to stop their work and think about safety in relation to their activities for five minutes.

At 10:55am, we use an Air Raid Siren to stop all work on site for a daily Heath and Safety check. This powerful anti-aircraft siren is loud enough to be heard by everyone on site, inside and outside the site.

The Process:

  • Crane pushing the horn five minutes before 11am.
  • Crane stopping all activities for five minutes.
  • Operatives stopping and assessing safety of their tasks.
  • Operatives assessing general safety of work area.
  • General housekeeping of the work area.
