Subcontractor Special Requirements

It is important for the principal and subcontractor to establish an efficient and considerate working relationship to ensure the wellbeing of the workforce.

The example below shows how one site achieved this:

  • Prior to commencement of works on site, the main contractor sent a questionnaire (template found below) to the subcontractor to ascertain if there were any special requirements for any of the workforce – e.g. smokers, e-cigarette users, cultural or religious needs etc.
  • The questionnaire results enabled the site to make arrangements based on the needs of the workforce.
  • The subcontractors on the site were specialists in this type of work, and could provide guidance.
  • The workforce needed to lodge, so the main contractor put together an information pack of things to do in Nottingham (copy below), including food and drink, outdoor activities, nightlife etc., and a map showing the location of the site.
