In July of this year we contacted Loughborough University to see if we could assist with students as part of their construction studies.
We received a reply from Yaa Berkoh who was undertaking MSc studies in construction management, so she was invited to site, and we agreed to take part in a “construction industry human resource management study”. We took part by initially completing 5 questionnaires that took 25 minutes to complete.
The objective of this research is to capture experiences of project participants to help construction organisations in enhancing the performance of individuals and teams, looking at structures in management.
We took this a little further, and returned several questionnaires after I chose to involve our architect and a selection of our subcontractors who willingly took part.
We are now awaiting the results of this research and a summary of recommendations upon completion of this study. This involvement underpins our commitment to “community” within the Considerate Constructors Scheme and in this case not only benefits this student but also benefits ourselves as an organisation with the feed back and results.
