The project team used advanced timber frame manufacturing techniques to ensure a sustainable approach to building new homes.

For their Dunbeg Housing site where they are building 300 homes, they have adapted their manufacturing approach to ensure the most efficient, sustainable and community focused approach possible. Given the size of the project, they have installed temporary factories at the development site to manufacture some of the timber frame kit components – Offsite manufacturing, effectively on site.

Doing this not only ensures ‘just in time’ production of floors, roofs and associated items, but it also reduces the traffic impact in the community and reduces the development’s overall carbon footprint.

Using the temporary factories has allowed more to be achieved on site whilst still retaining the efficiencies of offsite manufacturing, and importantly reducing the environmental and community impact. Having these facilities on site has also increased training opportunities on site for local joinery apprentices.
