Teacher Insight Visit

Graham Farrans Joint Venture (GFJV) invited the staff from Moneynick Primary School to visit the site of the new A6 Dualling Project, Northern Ireland.

The scheme will upgrade 14.7 kilometres of the A6 transport corridor between Randalstown and Castledawson. The flagship investment of £160m will strengthen the links between Belfast and Derry/Londonderry and will bring long term benefits to road users and the local community of reduced journey times and improved road safety.

With works running directly behind Moneynick Primary School, the GFJV wanted to take the opportunity to invite the teachers onto site, giving an in-depth insight into planned works and the construction process, as well as detailing all the exciting learning opportunities for the pupils of Moneynick over the next few years.

The teachers were able to speak directly to a senior engineer, watch earth movers, rock breakers, diggers and other large scale plant at work and got an insight into the rock blasting works due to take place in the next few weeks.

After the summer break Safety Sam will visit the school to talk with the boys and girls about safety on construction sites and there will be further opportunities later next year for children to take part in workshops around Forces and Energy with engineers from the GFJV.
