Temporary Works Gantry Dust Suppression

Due to excess dust produced whilst discharging ballast to ground from trains there was a need for an effective way of reducing airborne dust by means of water dampening.

The scaffolding scheme was developed to hold water supply to enable dampening down of the train ballast wagons. The frame allows the passage of trains on both the upline and downline.

The sprinkler system is connected to high pressure water mains, and is controlled by two ball valves taps. Sprinklers have been distributed along the top frame in a manner that covers the width of the ballast wagons passing below, ensuring these get the right amount of water to effectively wash off the ballast dust prior to discharging.
