During the winter months, access to the construction site could become treacherous with ice and snow, due to the remote location of the site.

As part of the winter working plan for the site, a text message alert system was introduced that warned all employees, subcontractors, clients and other contractors on the site that the roads to site were impassable and that employees were to wait in dedicated assembly points and await further instructions.

This ensured that no workers were driving along snow or ice covered roads to get to site, only to be told that the site was closed due to adverse weather. This greatly minimised the risk of accidents and collisions happening on the main highways leading to site.

The text message alert system used would also report back to the text message sender the amount of SMS messages that had been sent, delivered and had failed delivery.
