The Royal Mail Group’s efforts to support their workforce’s health and wellbeing

As an employer it is important to ensure that the appropriate facilities and resources are available to effectively support your workforce.

The construction industry may be able to learn from and share best practice with other industries.

The Royal Mail Group have identified the benefits of workplace wellbeing.

To support their employees, the following measures have been implemented:

  • Positive HR polices to support the demographic, i.e. flexible working, special leave, part-time working;
  • Consultation with trade unions;
  • Health and well-being board, set up to identify and address the health risks to Royal Mail Group;
  • Working group monitoring the impact of removal of the default retirement age;
  • Occupational health – support for all employees;
  • Employee benefits – reduced gym fees, health insurance etc;
  • Introduction of the ‘feeling first class’ – wellbeing programme;
  • Feeling first class online wellbeing portal – website offering advice on healthy lifestyles;
  • On-site gyms at 37 of the larger Royal Mail Group sites.
