This contractor has implemented Ultimate Cell, a hydrogen-based fuel enhancement system, on 15-tonne excavators.

The system generates hydrogen through electrolysis and injects it into the air intake of diesel engines, improving combustion efficiency, lowering fuel use, and reducing emissions without requiring engine modifications. Ultimate Cell units were fitted to a 15-tonne excavator, site dumper and telehandler, and monitored over three months via onboard telemetry and operator feedback. Results showed fuel use drops of 15-20% with CO2 omissions in a similar upper range.

Ultimate Cell is a retrofit technology that works with diesel and HVO and does not require hydrogen storage or new assets. Its compact size enables quick installation across multiple plant types. By lowering emissions, fuel costs, and idling impact, it supports net zero goals and demonstrates a scalable approach to decarbonising existing plant fleets while maintaining productivity and safety.
