Thursday 20th June was Clean Air Day 2019, the UK’s largest campaign against air pollution. Before this on Wednesday 5th June it was World Environment Day, the United Nations’ day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment, with this year’s theme focusing on air pollution.
Between the two events, a travel survey was sent out to all Multiplex staff including those based on our University of Glasgow project, asking our people how they travel to work in order to determine how ‘green’ we are when it comes to commuting. Analysis of the data was then carried out by the project’s sustainability team with the results communicated to the wider project team.
By carrying out the survey and the subsequent analysis of the data the sustainability team were able to determine how successful the implementation of the project’s green travel plan has been and target areas to improve the uptake of public transport and active travel options. Additionally, the data will facilitate a more accurate picture of Multiplex’s carbon footprint.
