UK Manifesto for Ethical Sourcing in Construction

Several of the leading construction firms have come together to launch an initiative aimed at promoting the fair and ethical treatment of construction staff and subcontractors.

British Land, Crossrail and Morgan Sindall are just some of the 35 co-authors behind the UK Manifesto for Ethical Sourcing in Construction, which has been backed by clients, contractors, designers, manufacturers and suppliers.

Writing the manifesto involved leading construction industry figures getting together with experts from the supply chain and ethical representatives such as Fairtrade International.

The manifesto was created as it was felt that it has become standard practice for the construction industry to manage environmental risks and social sustainability, but people, employment and pay issues are still to see the same level of commitment across the industry.

This manifesto aims to help the industry broaden its commitment to responsible sourcing and procurement to include the fair treatment of staff.
