Use of Colour and Space in Welfare to Improve Wellbeing

At Mace’s 78 St James’s Street project, the welfare facilities were completed considering the use of colour and space to improve wellbeing. Psychological research suggests that colour can have a significant effect on mood and has links with the wellbeing of people using the area. Bright colours were used to stimulate the mind and improve the mood onsite, making the welfare a more interesting place to be.

Other measures which were implemented to positively impact the wellbeing onsite include a wellbeing calendar and action plan, which includes activities such as walking meetings in Green Park, health awareness sessions and toolbox talks, as well as a quiet room.

A wellbeing noticeboard which displays posters of key materials and sheets on various wellbeing topics, such as mental health, nutrition, sleep and hydration. The noticeboard is located near the welfare, allowing this information to be accessible to everyone working onsite.

Alongside this, all staff were also given their own re-usable water bottles to encourage the reduction of single-use plastic waste and increase the use of tap water.
