Virtual Reality MEWP Training and MEWP Tracking System

In conjunction with Nationwide Platforms and Select Plant Hire, FLO (Ferrovial Agroman Laing O’Rourke Joint Venture) have rolled out Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) training through the use of virtual reality (VR).

In the safety of a classroom, operators of all experience levels can practice operating MEWPs in a variety of different scenarios. Novices can benefit from gaining experience in a safe environment, prior to using the machines in a real world situation. More experienced users can also be put through their paces and challenged in different scenarios.

A track unit system has also been installed on all mobile elevating work platform’s, (MEWP’s) on the Northern Line Extension Battersea site. They were activated in October 2018. This is a smart system which means that only trained and authorised personnel can access allocated MEWP’s.

The benefits of this include:

  • Eliminates risks of unauthorised use
  • Creates reports on the MEWP’s, including information on who’s operating, battery levels, MEWP activity and location etc.
  • This is a user friendly, efficient and robust system that enables the safe and controlled operation of MEWP’s.
