Virtually Interacting with Schools

Sites should seek opportunities to engage with the local community.

Working within the community provides a good opportunity for operatives to engage with schools and promote the positive nature of the construction industry, while also providing information on different trades and career opportunities within the industry.

Below is an example of how a site interacted with the local school:

  • As part of the ‘Community Engagement Plan’, the company linked with a local SME ‘Learn Live’;
  • A secure, live, interactive web link and video tour between classrooms and the site was used;
  • Students were able to see in real time the site environment and the construction methods to learn about different trades and career opportunities in construction;
  • This was offered to 16 career advisers to the 39 feeder schools and national colleges;
  • Existing apprentices streamed a tour of the site to boundary for future apprentices.
