Following a fire drill held at Ramsgate fire station, it become apparent that the telehandler operator, Colin, could not clearly hear the audible sirens and continued to work until a Morgan Sindall fire marshall made him aware.

Upon investigation, Colin at the point of the fire drill had his heaters on full power within the cab, which along with the noises of the operating telehandler drowned out the noise of the audible sirens.

Morgan Sindall have engaged with Ramtech (the supplier) to raise awareness of the issue, for which a solution was provided by adapting the hardware to one FP unit which will allow the unit to raise an alarm visually and not audibly.

The modified fire point has been safely fixed in the cab of the forklift and will flash when the alarm sounds, which will not startle the driver.

This provides a solution to our problem whilst maintaining a EN54 compliant system via the other 15 FP units
