Being able to theoretically walk through the works and processes improves the understanding of potential and expected safety risks.

One site demonstrated this through the example below:

  • Ortho-mosaic imaging combined with drone photos and CAD data are used to create a file that can be walked through, in a similar way to that found on Google Earth;
  • The tool is then used to support the visualisation of the works in the planning process helping to co-ordinate the positioning of cranes, storage areas and circulation routes with the sequencing and programming of the works;
  • There are numerous benefits but notably safety, optimising the overlap of the construction operations with people and vehicle movements and appearance, in terms of a site that is tidy and well organised.
