During the planning stage of the Broadway project, a number of risk review workshops were undertaken to focus on what will be the main risks during construction and what we can do to improve safety as a team. As work at height was the main risk, the team decided put together a project specific document designed to help everyone working on the project to understand how to keep their workplace safe from the risk of falls and falling objects. The training includes a PowerPoint presentation on the following:
All persons who were required to undertake work at height near a leading edge attended a training session and were issued with a sticker for their hard hat (which is recorded on a register) before they can undertake any work on site.
All works carried out near the building perimeter edge or other exposed areas WAPE MUST have undertaken the following:
Multiplex managers who have been trained to carry out the WAPE training are on a rota. This ensures that all persons are trained to the same standard. Supervisors responsible for an area inspection and fill in a WAPE checklist before any work is undertaken. This ensures that all controls are in place before allowing people to carry out risky work.
