Following our first site visit, we were advised that more could be to be done to engage with the local community. Given the site location, we thought that weekly newsletters on site activities would be a good way to involve the college and its surrounding stakeholders.
Each week thereafter, we covered site activities and important milestones to let the community know what was happening.
The newsletter had different themes with the most recent version intended to take advantage of our platform and help raise awareness for sustainability issues, thus merging Community Involvement with Environmental Awareness.
We thought this was a particularly good concept as it gave the average ‘non-builder’ a simple but focused insight into the construction industry, and its push towards greater sustainability. Efforts were made to keep it as concise as possible.
This has benefited the company by expanding our previously-held notion that we only needed to cover activities relevant to the day-to-day operations of the project. By which we mean, we can use our platform and insider knowledge to discuss and educate on wider topics.
