Working with a School to Construct Models with Recycled Polystyrene

St Canice’s Primary School in Dungiven took part in a project using recycled polystyrene that the contractor donated to them. The school held class discussions and all the pupils decided to use this recycled polystyrene to construct models of the ongoing A6 construction work taking place around their town. The project really got the children’s attention, and they were all involved in discussions, planning, designing, and constructing their models.

When the contractor went to the school to judge the models they were amazed at the high standard of work on display from the pupils. It was a very difficult decision picking the winning group, however, after much deliberation one of the groups from Mrs O’Kane’s P.6 class were eventually declared the winners.

When the contractor called into the school there was another project that caught their attention. This construction was carried out at home by a pupil and his Grandad. They set to work and without a doubt, they went above and beyond by building their own bridge made of steel.
