This contractor became an engaged member of the Responsible Plastic Management (RPM) Program to support targets of the contractor’s 2030 Sustainability Roadmap.
They identified that this project was a perfect location to attempt to achieve the exemplar status of having a construction project that was sending zero plastic to landfill. In order to achieve this they engaged intensively with their supply chain partners, RPM and waste management contractors.
Following third party auditing of all stages of the plastic waste journey including site procedures and segregation, primary recycling facility and sorting ability of stray plastic in skips it was determined that none of their plastic waste was being sent to landfill.
The culmination of all of the above work is that RPM are satisfied to certify the project as Zero Plastic to Landfill. This is the first time that this accolade has been awarded on any construction project in the UK and Ireland according to RPM. The products made from the recycled plastic (flower pots and sleepers) have been used to improve the appearance of the welfare area. Also they have donated flower pots of recycled plastic to the local primary school.
