Virtual Delivery Directions via QR Code

The team at the IRR & BioQuarter Enabling infrastructure project in Edinburgh identified a need to provide clear instructions to delivery drivers arriving to site. As the site is adjacent to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and sits on the emergency access route for ambulances reaching the A&E department, it is of vital importance to ensure that deliveries can quickly and efficiently find the site access and prevent any stopping or waiting on the surrounding access roads.

The team used the 3D model of the site to create a short film showing the route to site from the main road. The video provides clear instruction and a visual guide to drivers showing the route. The video goes on to visually explain the process for meeting the banksman at the site entrance and highlights the various locations for unloading within the site compound as well as reinforcing the one way system, hold points and pedestrian crossing locations.

The link to the film is sent out to suppliers in advance with drivers scanning a QR code which then links them to the video, hosted on YouTube.

As well as mitigating the risk of impeding emergency vehicles and detailing the safety procedures once at the site, the film also promotes an inclusive environment, being accessible to anyone who has any reading barriers or those for whom English is a second language.
