Visual System for the Safe Management of Risers

Work at height is one of construction industry’s greatest hazards. At their project for University College London Hospital, Mace have implemented a robust Riser Management Strategy to control access into and works within risers.

Initially the risers are designed to minimise risk such as with the use of prefabricated riser modules and floors installed during the superstructure construction and then a strict management procedure is used.

This system uses permits and the Entry Tag system and is easily visualised for the workforce with the use of a riser management board that graphically displays all the risers and who is working in them. This allows the multiple risers in the building to be effectively managed and easy for everyone to understand.
