Bluetooth sensors which can pick up and identify signals from mobile phones were attached to lighting columns at each end of the control area. The signals from mobile phones situated within waiting vehicles are used to track waiting times.
This data is then fed to a tablet, managed by a single operative to provide accurate waiting times to control the traffic lights. This provides a safe solution, minimises motorist tempers and equalises traffic flow in the opposing directions.
The system is automatic and there is a monitor which is colour coded to reflect the traffic conditions. This technology has proved invaluable for the control of traffic in the area.
