Colour Coded Barriers

The segregation of pedestrians from moving plant is always paramount in our traffic management plans. As such, we already maintain pedestrian barriers to all walkways.

Whilst carrying out daily briefings, it was identified that the colour coding of areas identified on the briefing board could be transferred to the barriers on the walkways.

Using coloured netting over pedestrian barriers would be a visual reminder of what the safety category of any particular area may be at any given time. It would be beneficial to all, site operatives and visitors alike.

The colours used identified three categories of safety:

  • RED: exclusion zone to all – no entry.
  • AMBER: construction walkway – project mandatory PPE should be worn.
  • GREEN: pedestrian site entrance and welfare walkway – no PPE required.

We have found this procedure to be well received by all on the project and the easy identification of areas makes for a safer environment.
