Crossing Patrol Officer

Our Stone Studios site on Wallis Road in Hackney Wick, London is on a road used by members of the local community for dropping off and picking up their children from the nearby Mossbourne Riverside Academy School.

Our Project Manager has been attending meetings of the Hackney Wick Fish Island Community Interest Group (HWFICIG). It was at this forum that community members highlighted that it would benefit them if Telford Homes were to provide a school crossing patrol officer for Wallis Road junction.

TH pointed out that although this was the responsibility of the local authority (Hackney Council), they would fund the provision of the crossing patrol. Hackney Council however struggled for weeks to recruit a crossing patrol person.

It was at this point, in agreement with Hackney and the local community, that we agreed to train a couple of our site operatives to fulfil this role. The training included a half day crossing patrol officer course. The training was followed up with an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check prior to commencing work.

In the meantime, Hackney Council will continue in their efforts to recruit a suitable candidate for the role which TH will fund. The TH crossing patrol officer has been on duty since 7th May 2019 between 8.00hrs-9.00hrs and 15.00hrs-14.00hrs every school day.
