As part of our ISO50001:2018 certified Energy Management System, Roadbridge is rolling out full battery powered electric vehicles (EV) and the supply of smart EV charging points across our larger construction sites and Regional Offices in Ireland.
The installed Smart EV charger points (supplied by Gocharge.ie) have the ability to instantly respond and use less power if the grid becomes overloaded. To be future-proofed, Roadbridge has also installed smart chargers into the homes of staff who drive company electric vehicles. The chargers are Wi-Fi enabled to allow drivers to charge at off-peak electricity rates overnight.
The installed EV charging points at sites means that staff can charge their electric vehicles while working at site offices or while visiting sites for meetings or training events. These EV charge points are affixed to site offices so they can be moved to other sites when projects are completed.
In early 2020 Roadbridge will extend our electric vehicle charging point network to our UK offices in Glasgow and London as well as to the site compounds of some of our larger construction sites. As part of our ‘Driving Green Construction’ energy saving initiatives, Roadbridge has also introduced hybrid track excavators with several Komatsu HB365 machines already deployed across some of our larger UK and Irish sites. Energy saving smaller plant items such as the Generac VT Hybrid lighting tower lights (with rechargeable battery packs) are also being used by Roadbridge on the HS2 rail project to reduce both carbon and noise emission levels.
