EVRA Booklet: Point of Work Risk Assessment

Recognising the dynamic and changing risk environment in working on long linear lengths of motorways and high speed dual carriageways, we have developed a small handy A6 sized pocket booklet to allow and encourage ‘at point of work’ risk assessments. This allows our workforce, who have already been inducted into the generic site risks, to also consider and record risk mitigation prevalent to the particular area of the site that they happen to be working on at any one time.

Our smart EVRA (Engineering Visit Risk Assessment) booklet has been provided to all staff, who in addition have received focused training in the ‘at point of work’ risk assessments requirements.

The assessment follows a simple five step site cycle:

  • Stop and observe
  • Think through the task
  • Identify the hazards
  • Control the hazards
  • Complete the task safety

We have found this of particular use for our workforce in ensuring their safety and the safety of others, and we have seen a more granular consideration of risk by staff as a result.
