GOTCHA Training Day

A training day was had for Lendlease construction managers and operatives on site where attendees were taught how to use GOTCHA rescue kits.

These kits would be used if an emergency evacuation, of a conscious or unconscious casualty, was required from the tower cranes on site. A GOTCHA kit provides the required equipment to lower the casualty in a controlled manner using a harness, ropes and pulleys.

Why we use it

  • If a stretcher cage cannot reach a casualty working in or on a Tower Crane, the GOTCHA Kit can be used to lower the casualty to an accessible area.
  • Training is required so that designated crane rescue persons can use the Kit in the event of an emergency.

Was it Successful?

  • All operatives and managers whom attended the course learnt how to use the kit and passed the mandatory test.
  • They now have several operatives and managers, on site, who could use the rescue kit to evacuate a casualty in the event of an emergency.

The Next Step

  • Lendlease have two GOTCHA Kits on site, their location is stated in the emergency rescue plan.
  • They will continue to hold training days for new operatives on site.
  • Training will be kept up to date and relevant for all designated crane rescue persons.
