Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil

This contractior recently used Hydrotreated Vegetable Oils (HVO) within their plants and machinery working on their  project. 6000 litres of HVO fuel was used in various items of plant on site including tower lights and excavators and their performance was monitored.

HVO fuels offer up to 90% CO2e savings compared to regular gas oil and the use of 6000 litres of HVO offered a carbon saving of over 16tCO2e. The project carbon baseline attributes nearly 20% of the total carbon footprint to onsite fuel consumption, so the use of HVO presents a considerable carbon saving opportunity over the lifetime of the project.

Feedback from plant operators was positive, or they said there was no noticeable difference to plant behaviour. Site staff seem pleased with the trial and would like to utilise it across more of the fleet in future.
